I talked to a friend tonight who I haven’t talked to in a very long time. I mean really talked to, and I realized that, even though I keep in touch with everyone- the distant friends via Facebook and the close ones via phone, I don’t really understand the depths of their lives anymore (if I ever really did).
I wish to try though. Again. I miss knowing people on that level.
I used to care about people.
… Didn’t I?
The friend I talked to tonight is having a rough
time life. I found this quote as I was reading a very intense letter he had written. I shared it with him, as I’m sharing it with you, in hopes that on some level it might help… someone. It is an ideal I live by.
“That is why it is so important to let certain things go. To release them. To cut loose. People need to understand that no one is playing with marked cards; sometimes we win and sometimes we lose. Don’t expect to get anything back, don’t expect recognition for your efforts, don’t expect your genius to be discovered or your love to be understood. Complete the circle. Not out of pride, inability or arrogance, but simply because whatever it is no longer fits in your life. Close the door, change the record, clean the house, get rid of the dust. Stop being who you were and become who you are.”–Paulo Coehlo
