Mindscapes: The man who needs to paralyse himself – health – 30 May 2013 – New Scientist

This man feels like he needs to be paraplegic because his limbs don’t belong on his body, a condition known as Body Integrity Identity Disorder.

I’ve never heard of this and am kind of blown away by it.  Mainly, though, I am grateful that I am comfortable being in my own body.  And I am very grateful for my limbs.

  1. That’s quite an interesting and curious story. Difficult to now what to make of it. Certainly it illustrates how complex the brain is. It also shows how complex our sense of personal identity must be, if a person would want to remove a limb, and physically damage themselves in such a serious way, just for a more comfortable and stable sense of self. Thanks for sharing this, very thought-provoking.
