Generosity leads to evolutionary success, biologists show

I love this.  It’s all basically theoretical, I think they called it abstract, but it builds on the Prisoner’s Dilemma.  What researchers found is that in a group setting being generous is more successful than being selfish.
I know it’s kind of like, “so what, who cares?”  But it gives us insight into why we see so many intenses of generosity in nature.

“When people act generously they feel it is almost instinctual, and indeed a large literature in evolutionary psychology shows that people derive happiness from being generous,” Plotkin said. “It’s not just in humans. Of course social insects behave this way, but even bacteria and viruses share gene products and behave in ways that can’t be described as anything but generous.” READ IT–
